A Thin Film Consisting of Stacked Graphene and the Intercalated Manganese Oxide as Efficient OER Catalyst

Abstract: A thin film consisting of stacked graphene (GR) and manganese oxide deposits was synthesized electrochemically for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst in alkaline media. The resulting catalyst was stable in alkaline media under experimental conditions and exhibited high OER electrocatalytic activity: an onset overpotential of 315 mV and a Tafel slope of 60.0 mV per decade. These results can be attributed to a synergistic effect of the catalytic activity of nanosized Mn oxide deposits and the ability of GR to transfer electrons from the catalysts.
